New Zealand Transport Agency National Variable Message Sign Contract TNZ 06-278

In 2007 ASL were awarded the largest single VMS contract in New Zealand incorporating a five year contract to supply, install and maintain VMS located on the regional state highway network. Over ninety VMS have been installed at locations from Milford Sound to Kaitaia with vital road networks covered including the Desert Road, Homer Tunnel, Lindis Pass, Arthur’s Pass, State Highway Two in the Waikato and out of Wellington and the Napier Taupo Highway Waioeka Gorge between Gisborne and the Bay of Plenty. ASL, NZTA and Opus have partnered in finding novel solutions to geographic and environmental difficulties brought about by the often remote locations where equipment was installed. All signs communicate using IP over either ADSL, 3G or satellite with dual communications set up in certain locations where walk-up control or radio frequency control is also needed. ASL/Armitage provide an ongoing 24/7 callout and fault monitoring service.
