Auckland ATMS Help Point Upgrade

With the formation of the Auckland Motorway Alliance the ageing radio frequency motorway emergency telephone system was seen as both a safety and operational failure point requiring a remedy as soon as possible. ASL and Armitage had previously installed over three hundred GSM and VoIP help points on various networks including the Northern Busway, ARTNL Rail Stations and various extensions of the Auckland Motorway Network including Johnstone’s Hill Tunnel. It was therefore decided that to provide NZTA and the motorway users with the best solution using a tried and tested technology in WayPhone. To save money and refitting time the decision was made to reuse the MET enclosures and build a panel that could fit directly inside.

Since the refit has taken place the operational availability of the phone network has been one hundred percent and the network usage has been able to be accurately measured proving that the MET use is higher than first predicted.
