In January 2020 Armitage were awarded the ITS contract works for the Puhoi to Warkworth Project (P2WK), north of Auckland. P2WK will extend the four lane Northern Motorway (SH1) from Johnstone’s Hill Tunnels in the south to just north of Warkworth. It is the first stage of the planned Ara Tūhono – Puhoi to Wellsford project aimed at providing a safer more resilient route between Puhoi and Warkworth. Engaged by SICE to provide both specialist ITS supply and integration, included in Armitage Group’s scope of works is the motorway and regional VMS, ramp signalling systems (RSS), advance warning signs (AWS), variable speed limit signs (VSLS), over height vehicle detection, inductive loops, wrong way detection (WWD), barrier gates, SMS reporting system and emergency telephony. Although COVID interruptions have impacted on the total programme much construction, equipment supply and enabling works has taken place to date.
