In 2008 the Auckland Motorway Alliance was established as an operational and maintenance alliance consisting of the New Zealand Transport Agency, Fulton Hogan, Opus, Beca, Resolve Group and Armitage. Tasked with providing a safer, more efficient maintenance and asset management approach for an 11-year tenure the AMA brought collaboration and best practice to the Auckland Motorway network challenged to increase performance whilst delivering more for less.

Armitage were tasked with ITS and tunnel system maintenance and service management; in 2008 commencing with the collation of inventories, budgeting and formulating a forward works programme with a focus on achieving budget savings and improved asset performance over the previous maintenance model. This engagement introduced budget responsibility to the AMA and generated proactive rather than reactive actions and choices in maintenance regime, product choice, risk assessment and renewal versus maintenance judgements.

Over the duration of the AMA contract ITS/M&E assets grew from 800 to over 3500 and our team grew to 14 technical, management and support personnel. Asset availability greatly increased and our team contributed to multiple industry awards for the AMA collectively helping it form a centre of excellence propagating ideas and skillsets across the industry.
